Validate a CNS (SUS Card)
Paste a CNS number, with or without spaces, to check whether it follows the validation rule and whether it is definitive or provisional.
A definitive CNS is built on a PIS number. Need a PIS/PASEP for the same sign-up?
Patient sign-ups usually ask for a CPF as well as a CNS. Need a CPF for the same test?
Looking for a test credit card? The SUS card has nothing to do with it.
How to use the CNS Generator?
Choose the type and the quantity
Leave it on any type, pick definitive or provisional, or fix the first digit (1, 2, 7, 8 or 9). Then select 1 to 10 numbers and choose whether you want spaces.
Generate the results
For definitive numbers, the tool starts from a valid PIS and calculates the end of the number. For provisional ones, it draws 14 digits at random and calculates the last one so the sum is a multiple of 11.
Copy when you need it
Copy one number at a time or the whole list, one number per line.
About the CNS (SUS Card) number
What is the CNS (SUS card)?
The CNS (Cartão Nacional de Saúde), better known as the SUS card, is the number that identifies each person in Brazil's public health system, the SUS. It shows up in health unit records, in the e-SUS platform and in clinic and health insurance systems, and it always has 15 digits.
Definitive and provisional CNS
The Ministry of Health's e-SUS documentation splits CNS numbers into two groups. Numbers that start with 1 or 2 are calculated from a PIS and are shown here as definitive. Numbers that start with 7, 8 or 9 are shown as provisional. The validation rule changes with the first digit. In real use, DATASUS treats the number starting with 7 as each person's main one.
How is the check digit calculated?
For numbers that start with 1 or 2, each of the first 11 digits is multiplied by a weight from 15 down to 5. The sum is divided by 11 and the digit is 11 minus the remainder, or 0 when that gives 11. The number ends with 000 and that digit. If the result is 10, 2 is added to the sum, the 000 becomes 001 and the digit is calculated again. For numbers that start with 7, 8 or 9, the sum of all 15 digits with weights from 15 down to 1 must be a multiple of 11. With spaces, the number is written as 000 0000 0000 0000.
